1. Local Processing & Zero Data Collection
HaniShot is engineered with a strict privacy-first architecture:
- No Analytics or Telemetry: The extension contains zero tracking code, zero analytics SDKs (such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel), and zero marketing beacons.
- Local IndexedDB Storage: All video files, screenshots, and custom preferences are stored entirely in your local browser sandbox through the HTML5 IndexedDB API.
- No External Server Communication: HaniShot makes no background network requests to third-party endpoints or developer servers.
2. Browser Permissions & Purpose
HaniShot requests only the permissions strictly required to perform local screen recording and screenshot tasks:
- activeTab & scripting: Used solely to capture screenshots of the current web page (visible, crop area, or scrolling full-page) when triggered by the user.
- tabCapture & offscreen: Used to stream video and audio from selected browser tabs and record them using the MediaRecorder API.
- downloads: Allows direct saving of exported video files and screenshots to your Downloads directory.
- storage & unlimitedStorage: Stores your local configuration (auto-split duration, default countdown) and allows high-definition video chunks to be saved locally without hitting browser quota errors.
- notifications: Displays notifications when an auto-split video chunk is completed or when an optional update is available.
- contextMenus: Provides quick right-click capture shortcuts.
- alarms: Powers internal recording duration timers.
3. Third-Party Sharing
We do NOT share, sell, rent, or trade your personal data or captured content with any third party under any circumstances.
4. User Control & Data Deletion
You have full autonomy over all captured media:
- You can view and preview all recordings anytime in the HaniShot Gallery.
- You can clear all local storage cache at any time from the Options / Settings page.
- Uninstalling HaniShot immediately deletes all extension databases and stored items from your browser.
